Time really flies now. Recently, the editor has been really busy and has not updated the website for a long time. Today, taking some time, I will introduce to you the wall thickness in plastic mold manufacturing.

The size of the wall thickness depends on the external force that the product needs to withstand, whether it serves as a support for other parts, the number of supporting columns, the number of protruding parts, and the selected plastic material. The wall thickness design of general thermoplastic materials should be limited to 4mm. From an economic perspective, overly thick product designs not only increase material costs, extend production cycles (cooling times), and increase production costs. From the perspective of product design, excessively thick products increase the possibility of creating voids (pores), greatly weakening the rigidity and strength of the product.

The most ideal wall thickness distribution is undoubtedly a uniform thickness of the section at any location, but changes in wall thickness to meet functional requirements are always inevitable. In this situation, the transition from a thick rubber material to a thin rubber material should be as smooth as possible. Sudden wall thickness transition can lead to dimensional instability and surface problems due to different cooling rates and turbulent flow.
